Popcorn

It's been well over a decade since I have attended church in the afternoon, quite possibly longer and frankly, it hasn't been so bad. Yes, it has moments of sheer chaos and restless children, but, with the right bribe and a whole lot of planning, all children behave... Sure, we bribe our children occasionally. A mother needs to have lots of tools in her arsenal and bribery, when done right, makes for happy mom and happy child. It really is a win-win. On Sunday morning after scripture study, we have been gently reminding our children that if they sit quietly through the first hour of church, they will be rewarded with a small bowl of popcorn when they get home. I don't think Abug moved that first Sunday. He quietly read his scriptures and looked through the Friend magazine. Llou played with her notebook and crayons, never needing to partake of Mr.E's snacks or water. Seriously brilliant, thank you inspiration, it might just make afternoon church less of a weekly count down and a more spiritual Sabbath.

If you have been reading this blog at all, you know my enthusiasm for "real" food. Popcorn, when done right, is the best kind of "real" food. It's healthy, easy to make (takes the same amount of time as in the microwave and costs so much less) and the kids can help. Which makes it an easy treat/snack for this mom to make. If you don't believe me, watch THIS. It's Good Eats: Popcorn addition. I love all the history, practical information and recipes wrapped up in 25 minutes. The best part, making a little extra for myself. Yum.

MK got us a popcorn popper for Christmas. And the girls LOVE it. They shriek every time the popcorn starts popping and overflowing out of the popper. Seriously the best gift and an awesome snack.
